The Convener of the Good Governance Initiative, Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna, has donated the sum of ₦1 million to the Nnewi Academic Congress (NAC) to support scholarships and educational assistance for indigent students.

According to Amb. Ikebunwa, the donation made a few days ago aims to kick-start an education support programme targeting underprivileged students, particularly in selected primary and secondary schools across Nnewi.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Nnewi Academic Congress, which was held at the Obi Uruagu Palace in Nnewi, Amb. Ikebunwa urged young graduates and undergraduates from Nnewi to join NAC, noting that members stand to benefit from numerous scholarship opportunities and empowerment programmes offered by the organisation.

He further assured that he would soon launch a comprehensive education support initiative designed to help indigent students and children from poor families gain access to quality education. In his words, “We shall soon launch the education support programme for selected primary and secondary schools in Nnewi, which will be fully sponsored by MEF.”

Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna, who is currently an aspirant for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat, has a strong history with the Nnewi Academic Congress. He previously served as President of NAC, Federal Polytechnic Oko Chapter, Vice President (Home Affairs), and Financial Secretary of NAC at the national level. NAC is the umbrella organisation that represents and coordinates all undergraduates and young graduates of Nnewi origin.

The former Special Assistant on Mobilization to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah described the donation as just the beginning, stating that young people in Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo are central to his vision for a more inclusive and people-oriented representation and as such, will continue to feel the positive impact of a leader who understands their needs, prioritizes their welfare, and genuinely carries the interests of the youth at heart.
