The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new customer service helpline to improve support for Nigerians experiencing issues with their National Identification Number (NIN).
According to the commission, the new line, 0800 061 6462, is toll-free, meaning Nigerians can call without being charged. The service is designed to provide faster assistance on NIN-related matters such as enrolment, corrections, verification, and other complaints.
In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, NIMC described the new helpline as offering “zero cost, faster support and easy access.”
What the New NIMC Helpline Covers
The helpline will handle issues related to:
NIN registration and enrolment
Correction or modification of personal details
Verification issues
General complaints and inquiries
NIMC said the move is part of efforts to improve customer experience, reduce delays, and ensure complaints are resolved more efficiently.
The commission also warned Nigerians not to patronise unauthorised agents, urging citizens to use only official channels when seeking assistance.
Why Your NIN Is Important
NIMC reminded Nigerians that the National Identification Number is essential for accessing many services, including:
Opening and operating bank accounts
Accessing government programmes
Telecommunications services
Other national platforms
As part of a renewed awareness campaign, the commission emphasised the importance of the NIN, stating:
“Your NIN is your power. When NIMC knocks, answer with pride.”
The new helpline will operate during official working hours. Nigerians who need assistance are encouraged to call the toll-free number and follow official guidelines to avoid fraud.
